The town of Vallesaccarda is a town located in the province of Avellino but its location is also on the border with the region of Puglia. It belongs to the territory called Baronia which includes about eight municipalities.
It is a land of great culinary tradition, of peasant origin. The municipality is located 650 meters above sea level and is a village of about 1300 inhabitants. A part of the village is crossed by the Fiumarella stream, in which stands the naturalistic area belonging to the Zps area of woods and springs of Baronia. Vallesaccarda is also mentioned by Quinto Orazio Flacco in an episode that occurred near Taverna delle Noci, during his journey from Rome to Brindisi in 37 B.C., who together with Maecenas and Virgil tells of a fleeting encounter with a young and beautiful girl of the place.
Among the various historical Notes have been found numerous archaeological evidence that prove the correlation between the current area of Valais Saccardese and the ancient roads such as the Aurelia-Aeclanensis and the diverticulum that connected with the Regio Tratturo reaching the Traina. Vallesaccarda historically originated as a fraction of Trevico and only in 1958 became an autonomous municipality.
The town is known for its gastronomy, among the typical dishes we find trills that are a typical fresh pasta made by hand similar to cavatelli but larger. Vallesaccarda is known for its restaurants, Oasis Sapori Antichi known restaurant included in the list of the best restaurants in Italy and that for years confirms its Star in the Michelin guide. Vallesaccarda is also known for its local ovens of communities, around which in the summer periods are organized festivals to enhance the typical products related to the cultivation of ancient grains, in addition to the main festival that is the patronal one dedicated to the S.s Mary Immaculate whose church is located in the main square. Vallesaccarda in recent years has also been recognized for street art, we remember the murals by Vinicio Capossela made by hand by Jorit.
