San Marco dei Cavoti a village of ancient origins (pre-Roman). The oldest inhabited nucleus, located near "Cenna" today’s Zenna, was destroyed by the earthquake of 1349. Soon after around 1350-60 in a French colony, of Provençal origin, the current town found new life thanks to the impulse of the feudal lord Luigi Shabran and precisely around the mother church called "San Marco Evangelista to which the Shabran were devoted.
The ethnic "Cavoti" dates back to the Gavots, inhabitants of the Gap, cities of Provence from which the French settlers came. Around 1650/60 the feud passed into the hands of the Cavaniglia and then into those of the Caracciolo. After feudalism, other families acquired most of the property and land in the area. The earthquake of 1962 caused considerable damage to the original historic center that was largely abandoned. Today partly renovated and alive. Country mainly linked to agriculture, but it finds strong stimulus in the craftsmanship and in the production of the requested Croccantino covered with dark chocolate.
