Ventotene (LT) - Lazio
Ventotene is part of the Pontine or Ponziane Islands archipelago.

About 2800 meters long, with a maximum width of 800 meters and high, at the highest point 139 m. The island has characteristics very different from those of the island of Ponza. More compact, it denounces its volcanic origin in the reddish and brown lands, covered by low vegetation and prickly pears. The tour of the island has pleasant surprises.

Ventotene, destination of a growing tourism, offers at first glance already the unmistakable flavor of "antiquity". The ferry, in fact, to moor to the modern harbour basin coasts, in its long and picturesque evolutions of maneuver, a promontory from the meager and unmistakable tufa mass, said Punta Eolo (also this definition is a dutiful and premonitory mention of the mythical god of the wind, whose presence will certainly, and widely, be noticed during the stay on the island) Above are scattered the remains of an imposing Roman villa to which tradition has attributed the emblematic name of "Villa Giulia", in memory of the daughter of Emperor Augustus who stayed in exile.

But the most unique surprise will be as soon as you walk ten meters from the dock of the pier: beyond the inevitable and vociante human wall that characterizes every arrival and departure of the ferry, the extraordinary spectacle of the ancient port of Ventotene, entirely carved in the rocky bench.
