Castelpetroso (IS) - Molise
 

The origins of the Castrum Petrosum settlement date back to the year 1000, when the Lombards built a fortress, whose square shape recalls the Norman buildings. After the Angevin domination, the castle passed first to the family of Alneto, then to the lordship of the counts of Isernia, the Pandone of Venafro, the Storrente of Gaeta, the Caracciolo and the Paolucci, up to the De Rossi, already known as de Rubeis, which dominated you to the subversion of feudalism.

 

Castelpetroso is one of those small ancient and unknown places with enchanting charm that combines history, culture and unspoilt nature, where you can still breathe an air of tradition and authenticity and where you can admire a breathtaking view.

Indiprete: is the largest and most populous village, whose name seems to derive from "Interpentros" among the stones. Located about 2 km from Castelpetroso center, it is home to the main crafts of the country. It is also enriched by the presence of the parish church dedicated to the Madonna della Libera and the chapel in honor of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

 

Pastena: is the hamlet that develops between the old and the new S.S. 17. Once it was famous for the Martella tavern, a place for refreshment and accommodation of times gone by , there were important people such as Count Acquaderni of Bologna, promoter of the construction of the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows, and Cardinal Giacomo Della Chiesa, who in 1914 was elected pope with the name of Benedict XV.

 

Fault: the borough was made famous because it gave birth to Bibiana and Serafina (Fabiana Cicchino and Serafina Valentino), the two shepherds who were the first witnesses of the apparition of Our Lady of Sorrows in Cesa among the Saints.
