It is a museum aimed at preserving, communicating and renewing the cultural identity of the local community and aims at an active and integrated conservation of strictly geographical aspects, landscape and environment, but also to the enhancement of patrimonial, material and intangible resources, such as houses and factories, life and work practices, local products with a view to orienting the future development of the territory in a logic of environmental, economic and social sustainability, responsibility and participation of public and private stakeholders and the entire local community.

There are several projects promoted by the ecomuseum to promote and enhance this territory. It is the example of "Borghi di..." a series of maps created by the Ecomuseum Association of Valle d'Itria with possible thematic routes to discover and rediscover the ecomuseum area following, from time to time, a common thread with the characteristics and peculiarities that unite these places.
