Locorotondo (BA) - Apulia

Locorotondo is the city of the Cummerse, the only rectangular houses with sloping roofs, made of chiancarelle, which is rich underground.

Locorotondo, from the Latin locus rotundus, is a distinctly medieval toponym to indicate the roundness of the hill where the village would later rise.
The first human settlements in Locorotondo date back to the time of the Byzantine domination ceased in the 11th century with the arrival of the Norman conquerors.
Locorotondo was first a fief of the Benedictine monastery of Monopoli, then of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and finally of the Aragonese.

In addition to cummerse, in Locorotondo you can see examples of the most famous trulli, symbol of nearby Alberobello.

Locorotondo, in history, has been chosen several times as a location for famous films, including: Casanova '70 by Mario Monicelli; Polvere di stelle by Alberto Sordi; Così è la vita di Aldo Giovanni e Giacomo; Mio cognato with Sergio Rubini; Le Bande e Baciami piccina with Vincenzo Salemme.
