Also called "water village", due to the wealth of springs in the surrounding area, Alberona is a medieval village surrounded by woods, in a green landscape with more or less strong colors.
From the beautiful Muraglione you can enjoy a wide panoramic view over the entire Tavoliere to the Gargano promontory, the Tremiti Islands and the sea of Manfredonia.
At the entrance of the village you can see the curious Fontana Muta, so called because the roar of water is only felt approaching. In the main square there is the Church of S. Rocco, to see also the Mother Church and the Tower of the Grand Prior. The Antiquarium comunale, with objects dating back to the early twentieth century. The name of the locality comes from a legend according to which some Calabrian families, arrived in the area around the year 1000, would have found shelter in the hollow of a huge tree, from which precisely Alberona.
