Roseto Valfortore (FG) - Apulia

On the western back of the Dauni Mountains, lying on the back of a hill in the upper valley of the river Fortore, 650 meters above sea level rises Roseto Valfortore.

The attentive visitor will immediately notice that it is nature to dictate, the harmony of the village, enriched by the skilful work of the stonemasons, and the peasant identity have made it one of the "most beautiful villages in Italy". It is likely that the name Roseto, "Rosito" comes from the abundance of wild roses that spread over the area. The village, rebuilt in 1294 by Bartolomeo di Capua, is a tiny agglomeration that reflects the Lombard technique, the buildings started from a road that flanked the parish church called "under saints"separated from each other by several alleys of different sizes that led to the "coasts", connected to the main road, which overlooked the "Palazzo Marchesale", to run at the bottom of the alleys where large doors protected the country from enemy assaults.

The many qualities of flowers that bloom in the surrounding woods, led to the production of an excellent honey. the black truffle, harvested from spring to autumn and transformed into sauces and aromatic oil, enriches the dishes of local cuisine. In the farms scattered in the valley, the breeding of cows in the wild promotes the production of excellent dairy products, fresh braids, typical caciocavalli and mature caciottas. Delicious baked goods: bread, pizza, warmers, biscuits and cakes, specifically the "zuzamedde", calzoncelli with ricotta and piccilatedde.
